Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. Lothar Gründig

Berlin Institute of Technology

We would like to invite you to Textile Roofs 2013 Workshop in Berlin. Textile Roofs aims at bringing together international expert knowledge and facilitating the dialogue on emerging topics in the field of Architectural Membrane Structures.

The main objectives of this workshop are to provide fundamental information, as well as presenting the state-of-the-art in textile roof engineering. Above all, the workshop aims to provide practical answers to real-world questions.

Among others the following subjects will be addressed

Introducing Lightweight Structures

Computational and Physical Modelling

The Textile Roofs Market

Detailing, Connection Design and Fabrication

Economic Factors

Materials for Textile Structures

Environmental Aspects

Project Case Studies

The workshop offers an interdisciplinary forum in the fields of architecture, civil engineering, geodesy and technologies related to membrane structures. We sincerely welcome you to take part of this activity in sharing with us your expertise and passion about Textile Roofs in 2013.

Textile Roofs 2013 is hosted by the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformation Science of the Berlin Institute of Technolgy. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Frank Neitzel - the head of the chair of Geodesy and Adjustment Theory - welcomes the participants of this event.

The workshop starts on Monday, June 17th, shortly after the Techtextil 2013 in Frankfurt has ended (June 11th - June 13th). For those who arrive earlier in Berlin an icebreaker party is organized on June 16th (Sunday evening) at the impressive glass-walled Geodätenstand on the rooftop of the university.

In addition to a comprehensive programme of lectures presented in English by key figures from the membrane structure industry and academia, opportunity for the study and hands-on development of practical case-studies in an informal tutorial environment is provided.

During the afternoons the hands-on workshop ran with opportunities for both physical and computational modelling. Each participant will work with advanced and High-End Software products and is guided by one of the workshop organizers through three different strands in three groups:

Physical Modelling

Hands-on Formfinder Workshop

Easy Modelling / Hands-on

In parallel to the regular workshop programme a Textile Roofs 2013 Students Workshop is organized. The results of this workshop will be discussed with the participants on the afternoon of the last day (June 19th) during a parting drink.

Next to the social events (ice-breaker party, sightseeing trip by tourboat, workshop banquet and parting drink) a special guest lecture will be presented.
