General Requirements and Categories
The LSAA 2020 Design Awards are for completed projects since October 2018.
Projects, or significant portions of a structure, may be located around the globe but the Awards are primarily intended for projects that have a substantial local contribution - such as design, fabrication or construction.
LSAA Members and non-members may enter (different fees apply for members, per entry for non-financial members TBC).
The Awards are also open to companies or individuals who may not have acted as the main designer, fabricator or installer. However only one entry per project will be considered.
The Awards will considered in the following categories:
The Theme for the LSAA 2020 Conference is Re-NEW, Re-IMAGINE, Re-CREATE
The 2020 Conference Venue is at Swinburne University Melbourne
The LSAA Conferences run over two consecutive days with a gala Conference Dinner and Design Awards on the Thursday night.
There is a mix of invited Keynote speakers as well as speakers from the local industry.
Some sessions are devoted to recent projects and some are devoted to industry issues such as performance of fabric structures in fire.
Details of our invited Keynote Speakers as well as for other industry contributors will be displayed in this section.
The LSAA Design Awards are the Industry Premier Awards in the fields of lightweight structures and tensioned membrane structures.
There are seven categories and we are looking for projects that have been essentially completed since our previous Awards in October 2016.
Each project can only be entered once and we are looking for projects that have a significant input from the region.
Non-members of LSAA may also enter work and there is an entry fee (per project) with details supplied digitally using the forms.
The LSAA often has conducted a technical workshop on the day before the main Conference.
There are normally some structured presentations as well as team building of models to satisfy a client brief.
Past workshops have dealt with the design through erection of tension membrane structures. Another workshop concentrated on the design, fabrication and erection of knitted shadecloth structures.
For the 2020 Conference, a pre-conference workshop dealing with membrane structures is being planned in conjunction with the Specialised Textiles Association (STA - see https://specialisedtextiles.com.au/).
Bookings and registration facilities will be added to the website in due course.
There are discounts on the registration fees for financial members of LSAA and partner groups.
Other discounts apply for multiple bookings from the same company, students and sponsors. Speakers also have a significant discount.
It is possible to book extra places for the Conference Dinner and Design Awards Presentations.
Sponsorship contributions are invaluable for the financial success of the LSAA Conferences.
There are several levels of Sponsorship Packages available.
Proceeds go towards covering the organizational costs, expenses for our Keynote and other speakers and to subsidize registration costs for students and organizing staff.
Details of the various packages will be published soon.
