Application: A ceiling for a Shopping Mall in Thailand
Description
At the final stage of the construction, client wanted to add a ceiling to hide all the truss frames at the hall area which is more than 10-meter height and cover an area around 1,000 sqm. Since the area is quite big and high so for conventional methods by using plaster panels we need a big amount of scaffolding which take time to set up and remove. On the other hand, the existing supporting frame was not designed to handle ceiling weight. Therefore, membrane structure was chosen due to light weight structure and fast construction.
Design Brief and Structural System
Contraints were - large span, light weight, no scaffolding, saving time. Using existing concrete columns as supporting structure.
Materials
Central Ceiling fabric area 1,400 sqm. Fabric type Hiraoka SX-1800-C, Ferrari white opaque color
Fabrication
Due to the design using combination of fabric to create pattern and allow lighting to make effect to the hall , patterning for this project was 300 pieces which required high skill and time consume to get all fabrics welded to match the patterning.
