In preparation for the return of the summer Olympics to Australia, Brisbane is working on "green and gold" infrastructure projects during the 10 year lead up period to the games.

Some new "green bridges" will enable - and encourage - more pedestrians and cyclists to move around the city in an environmentally friendly manner.

Brisbane itself will be the location for 18 of the 32 events.

Almost certainly the Gabba will be redeveloped - again - and the projected cost could well exceed $1bn. This time the road network in the area may well be completely redesigned.

More details to follow.

Brisbane Master Plan

Christchurch will have its new multi-use arena and will pay for it, as far as Ashburton’s chief executive understands.

The Christchurch City Council voted to increase the budget for its multipurpose arena, Te Kaha, to $683 million, entering into a fixed price design and construction contract with lead contractor BESIX Watpac. Populus are bringing their stadium design expertise to the project.

The design will be suited to rectangular fields and it will have a capacity for between 25,000 and 30,000 people. The fixed truseed roof will enable an all weather environment.

Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium roof in Delhi, India.

NOTE: 2023 Need some images and/or links if possible

Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (JNS) was originally built in 1982 in honour of India's first Prime Minister. Mr. Nehru is credited as the founder of modern India through political and social reform. In preparation for the upcoming 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi this facility is receiving a dramatic update. The crowning achievement to the stadium's rebirth will be the tensile membrane roof, supported by a vast cable net. LSAA members  MakMax were awarded the contract to supply and install an ambitious fabric and cable roof design, the structure is now near completion with 50 of the 88 fabric panels installed. Schlaich Bergermann & Partners are the structural engineers.
