LSAA 2024 Design Awards - General Details

LSAA Members and non-members may enter (different fees apply).

The 2024 Awards are for completed structures since May 2022 and are open to companies or individuals who have acted as the main designer, fabricator or installer. 
The "project" may be part of larger facility - e.g. an Atrium, Facade, Entrance, Roof.

However only one entry per project will be considered.

We are also working on an open award for the conceptual design and visualization of an application of lightweight structures in a public venue. This new Award would be open to small teams of students currently enrolled in a tertiary institution to develop and present a conceptual design which embodies the principles of lightweight structures but also emphasizes sustainability and the need to address social and climate change issues.

CATEGORIES

The Lightweight Structures Association of Australasia (LSAA) Design Awards are for completed projects since the date of the previous Awards (May 2022) and will considered in the following categories (modified for the 2024 Awards):

  1. SMALL STRUCTURES and SHADECLOTH APPLICATIONS            
    Domestic, Project area < 250m2
  2. MEDIUM STRUCTURES and SHADECLOTH APPLICATIONS
    Project area between 250m2 and 1,000m2
  3. LARGE STRUCTURES      
    Project area exceeds 1,000sqm. Examples Large Atriums, Stadia Roofs
  4. GLAZING AND VERTICAL FACADES
    Large span glazing walls or roofs, other forms of lightweight facades (cablenets etc) to control interior environments.
  5. SPECIAL APPLICATIONS AND INNOVATIONS
    Includes applications of lightweight structures used in an interior environment, manufactured as a product, and can be either temporary, demountable, relocatable or permanent structures.  (Interior structures, large awnings, shelter structures, are some examples). Applications using new technology and sustainability principles. Innovations in the teaching of collaborative design.
  6. INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS
    Any lightweight structure may be submitted that satisfies the Entry Conditions. International Projects probably would be judged in one of the five Categories above.

DETAILS (Outline only)

  1. One entry per project
  2. Entry forms must be completed and submitted with entry fees by the due date
  3. Judging is based on the written information and a range of high quality digital images as specified
  4. Images should show overall concept and design, main supporting systems, a range of connection details, erection, interior and exterior views.
  5. CAD drawings may assist but must be in PDF format
  6. Material submitted including images must be cleared of any Copyright restrictions and entries will be used as a basis for new articles on the LSAA website and Social Media outlets.
  7. Proposed new fees per entry (for 2024) are $AUD200 for LSAA Financial members and $AUD300 for non-members. One free entry in the Small or Medium sized category.
